Pho. As in Pho Challenge, as in are you pho real? On a rainy February evening, a group of the dumbest smart college kids ventured here from Berkeley, facing rush hour traffic and enduring growling stomachs for one purpose: to face the Pho Challenge. This Pho Garden is actually a restaurant attached to the Serramonte Mall (so yes, you won't be sitting in the middle of the food court scarfing down pho). We, all 25 or so of us, were graciously greeted by the manager on duty, Johnny. He was pleasantly surprised to see so many hungry stomachs, but unfortunately only had 11 challenge bowls and no "I got pho'd" failure T-shirts. So call ahead if you're going with a group to ensure you reap the rewards! The Challenge: - 2 lbs of noodles, 2 lbs of beef (tripe, tendon, etc.), varying amounts of other vegetables in 1 hour - $22 if unfinished, plus a T-shirt - Free if completed, plus the titanic bowl, plus your picture on the wall of fame, and oh, ETERNAL GLORY?? The pho itself is about average, or at least the first 10 minutes of it was. After that, you're off the cruise ship and on the struggle bus for the rest of the time. What boosted this place's rating was the great service we got, considering there were so many of us. The cooks and random people were taking pictures of us (Ocean's) Foolish Eleven and Johnny and the waiters complied as quickly as possible with all of our requests (more lemons! more ice! more bowls!) and were very good-natured about the whole spectacle, even though I'm sure it was not a pleasant scene to clean-up after. I can't tell you anything about the other menu items since I wasn't exactly in the mood to eating anything related to noodles or meat after the challenge, but suffice it to say that they're still in business. There's plenty of seating and all the furnishings are kept at your typical mall eatery cleanliness. Tips for challengers: - Accept the ice bucket. And as soon as you get your bowl, lift all your noodles to the surface to start cooling, unless you fancy eating with a burnt tongue. - If you really need to, take small sips of water to counteract the savory-ness. - Eat the noodles before they start spawning and use your non-dominant hand to scoop and hold the noodles out of the broth. - The beef will not appear to be beef after you're through with one pound of it. Use some sauce (hoisin, soy, etc) to mask it's unappetizing texture. - Have a friend get some other food court snack (fro-yo, French fries, Jamba) to cleanse your palate. - BATHROOM Y U SO FAR. You'd think that for the sake of the janitor's they would locate the bathrooms next to Pho Garden, or at least within the food court. No, it takes a good minute to walk there, so flush it all out in advance and plan your trips accordingly.

Can I rate 0 stars. =/ My mom ordered the chicken noodle. The chicken smelled old and rotten, and she got food poisoning after this meal.

Service was good but, Imperial spring rolls were the frozen kind(skin was obviously not crispy and layered but instead was soft and chewy). Don't order Chicken noodle soup(the chicken they gave us was the chicken they used to make the broth, not fresh chicken like other pho places would serve). Price was obviously more than other decent pho places.

I wish I wouldn't think to eat there today, well, I did not eat but I wasted my money! I tried their tofu sandwich before, I said tofu, and I got tofu with crisp bread and so, it was not great, but was enough good to press your vietnamese sandwich. Today, I ordered again after months, to go. I opened it right there to put hot sauce, it was like there was a war in my sandwich. I knew there was something wrong from strong smell comes out of pocket. The bread was already mushy , wet with some kind of mushroom sauce. Cucumbers were not peeled, with thick skin on them, and dried. I looked for finding tofu, there was two-three small pieces around. One jalapeño ! Only one slice! And a couple slice celery. Seriously? What is wrong with you guys?? She told me that some times they don't have enough tofu!! Then don't sell it! It is disrespect to us, disrespect to food, and disrespect to yourself ! Whoever made this sandwich!! If you do it, do it right, or don't do it! I don't recommend anyone to eat there till they fix their problems, whatever it is! I gave it to server, and told her to throw it. It is disgusting, I understand I may wouldn't like the style or test, you can take this food and give someone hungry. This sandwich, if you gave it someone hungry, he would curse you.

Ok, if I could give no stars I would! This place was horrendous and disgustingly unsanitary. Although we did not eat there just observing the environment and the food preparation gave me a stomach ache!! A pot of something was actually dragged across the dirty floor and put on the stove for cooking! That same same guy who picked up the pot from the floor with the same gloves proceeded to make my order of spring rolls, which I quickly decided to cancel!!! The wait time was 15 min for TWO spring rolls. What more can I say but no thank you and glad I cancelled my order. My advice, steer clear of this place!!

It's a pho restaurant inside the mall people! I understand that maybe an establishment is not up to par with some peoples taste but giving this place 2 stars or even 1 is kind of upsetting. They're sandwiches are decent, workers are friendly, clean establishment. The soup is good, trust me, I've had so much worse. The face they cook in front of you is nice because most pho restaurants cook in the back, you don't know what's going on back there. I come back mainly for the sandwiches :)

I love pho. It's one of my favorite comfort foods and I had a craving for it because the weather has been so cold and depressing recently. That is what led me here. While shopping at Serramonte, I decided to drop by here for dinner. I ordered the rare steak pho and it was unlike any pho I've ever tasted before. First of all, I wasn't expecting anything spectacular considering the location. However, this pho was seriously lacking in flavor...any flavor. It wasn't salty. It wasn't savory. It was just bland all around, everything from the broth to the rice vermicelli noodles and the thin slices of meat. Normally, I think sriracha sauce can rescue anything so I added some to my food. Still...nothing. As far as service goes, it matched the style of food here. It was just blah. They weren't rude or particularly friendly. Prices were fair. I won't come back again but that pho challenge looks interesting.

Uh, yes. Home of the pho challenge. No, I have not gone out of my way to risk $30 to keep a giant trophy of a bowl. Pho garden sells banh xeo, and it's hella good. Enough said. You HAVE to eat it. Their pho is pretty good, their noodles tend to end up on the soggier side, and I feel like it could use more meat in a bowl.

  • Mico S.

Since it is called "PHO Garden" - I assumed that if nothing else - they would know how to make good Pho. I was wrong. It was bland and boring. Two stars for other items that they served - it is possible that they are better, but not the Pho.

This is a decent place for some average pho and slighty above average sandwiches, but what I love at this place is their 5 spice chicken. I always order it extra crispy and have not been dissiapointed yet. The staff won't blow you away with amazing service but you will not be ignored either.

I figured I'd see about this for myself since a few other friends here have left a string of fluctuating reviews. Ordered my usual Pho Tai that I would at any other place. Little did I know that it would take over 5 minutes to get my order. It's usually a speedy process at other pho joints, but let's say this one runs on Filipino time. And the staff? Being that I've worked at Serramonte for several years, I know a few of their faces. They've been at this location when it used to be Lori's Diner, then Pho Paya, and now this. I suppose I can give it another shot, since I had to rush through my meal. Trying to consume pho quickly is no easy feat. I wouldn't be able to taste anything for at least a day with all my taste buds burnt. That said, I barely got halfway through my bowl. *sigh* I hope they turn things up a notch the next time I come in.

I got the grilled pork w/ a fried egg. And this Is what I got. Horribly dried yellow(yes I said yellow) rice. And yes I ate the yolk from the egg already but it was nowhere near over easy(i was hungry). The worst part was the grilled pork chop was about to expire. You know when you bite into it and it has that nasty dead stench ? Yeah it was that bad.

I must admit I like the other pho garden in the city much more, but this one will do for the convenience. I love their soup! My boyfriend ordered the combo pho and I ordered the pho with beef and tripe. They sort of skimped out on the goodies including the veggies and such, but you can't expect too much from a shopping mall restaurant. The service isn't the greatest, they give you a seat, hand you a menu, come to take your order, give you your order then don't come back until the check. Their pho isn't too bad and I saw that they have vietnamese sandwiches, I have yet to find one that meets up to Little Paris, so maybe next time :)

emergency pho fix, I did the job. Cleaner then the other Pho spots that I know of. Connected to the mall can be good or bad depending on how you view it.

I ordered the beef pho. The soup isn't too salty like other places that make pho so it's a plus. If you come early enough, you can snag some good seats by the back (yes, those are good seats to me). They served the pho pretty quickly, I believe. I was in a rush that day so I was happy that they served my order quickly. The place is very spacious. I like the look of the tables and the bowls. Other than that, this place is pretty good in my book. It's not bad but it's not the best.

2nd visit here and MUCH worse that first. Food was almost COLD when it came out. Everything was BLAND and tasteless too. What's worse there were two of us and both had noodle dishes (one w/seafood & one w/5 spice chicken) and there was a good 6-7 minutes in between the delivery of each. Also I think my chicken was delivered to one of the other two tables that were occupied in error then brought back to the kitchen to sit for several minutes. Considering they weren't even busy, this was ridiculous. At times the kitchen staff was goofing off too. Service was bare minimum and the one request we made for straws was never fulfilled. Good bye Pho Garden - never stepping foot in here again....

the #3 vietnamese sandwich was really yummy. The meat was super tender and juicy and full of fat (mmMmm). The bread was warm and soft, and a decent size, I was surprised. Currently (special) $5.00 for sammich and drink, $4.50 w/o drink. Thai iced tea was too sweet, and $3.00. Decent, would come back just for that sandwich. I don't like how the bright menu above the cooking area doesn't say the prices. It just says: -item- $ -item- $ What does $ mean? :(

*This review is only for their grilled beef bahn mi* My gluttonous friend and I came in here in search of sustenance and were immediately greeted by one of the waitresses who asked if we wanted a table. We said we just wanted sandwiches and she got close to us, lowered her voice and said, "get the grilled beef. so good! I just tried today!" She even nudged my friend like she was giving away a big secret! How could we resist at this point? When it came out, the sandwich was still warm and the smell of the sweet succulent meat permeated my nostrils. I quickly bit into it and was met with soft crunchy bread and mouthwatering beef! YUM! The veggies were crisp and fresh and the jalapeno was the perfect compliment to give the sandwich a little kick! The poor thing didn't stand a chance! I devoured it in 5 minutes! Since the first time, I've been back twice just for that particular sandwich. The last time was a bit disappointing. The beef, albeit still tasty was very chewy. I didn't appreciate having to yank at it with my teeth to break it apart. Now I know how doggies feel when they're playing with their chew toys. I would have given the sandwich 5 stars if only the meat was consistent. Regardless, I'll be back for more!

Just started enforcing NMCB (No meat, cheese and bread) days in my life. I'm doing this with hopes of opening myself up to more vegetarian fare/restaurants. Unfortunately, I started all of this without a plan. Well I had a plan for dinner but nothing for breakfast or lunch. So I skipped breakfast and ran errands. By the time noon came around I was ready to scrap the idea of NMCB days especially when I walked through the Serramonte food court. BUT NO I wanted to be strong and also try something i haven't tried before. Then I saw "Garden" no really the big lit "Garden" part of their name is what caught my eye. Dazed by hunger, I thought garden = vegetables and that's where I headed. The menu didn't seem very vegetarian friendly but they had the vegetarian pho and I just needed something in my stomach before the meat monster took over and I backed out of my new lifestyle change. Got home put everything together and dived in. There were 2 problems that I had with my dish. There were very little veggies. A few pieces of broccoli and some celery that had brown spots...not cool PLUS not a fan of tofu and asked for no tofu. The restaurant wasn't busy the lady turned to the cook and told him no tofu, he immediately began to make my dish and still I got tofu. I'm sure I can find something on the menu that I'll like but there are so many other places to see that it will be a while before I come back to this place, I mean you heard, what I said before "celery with brown spots" so so not cool.

It was my first time eating banh mi. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor and freshness of the sandwich. I had heard a lot of buzz when I was in NYC about the sandwich, but I never had the time to get one while I was there. Now upon returning to SF I've realized what the buzz is all about. I absolutely do not like carrots, but they complimented the cilantro perfectly. I think it could have used a touch more sauce. The service was excellent and for 5$ I'll definitely be returning here for another soon.

I'm kinda sad that this place gets reviews of being "mall food" or for their bad staff. I actually like the food at this place and think they offer a great deal for their banh mi's. (Pork belly,mMm) We normally order beef ball / raw beef pho, the shaking beef over garlic noodle (which everyone normally digs into before me :( ), beef stew over rice, the spring rolls (meh), and a couple of banh mi's (pork belly, i just had to mention it again because it puts me a good food coma) and the bbq chicken. The staff is very quick and attentive, they take my order fast and keep an eye on my water. I've officially traded this place in for my usual go to spot of Pho 99 (the only thing they've updated on their menu is the prices).

Yesterday I decided that I didn't want to find parking at clement just to eat pho. So I drove all the way to serramonte for the same Pho restaurant that I love. Being honest, I definitely had some expectations for this place. My reaction when I saw this place - O.O This place is just made Top 1 of the cleanest Pho restaurants I've seen. Well I guess it should be since it is pretty new. Now on to the food, enough rambling about the environment. I ordered a rare steak with noodle soup number 11 on the menu with extra noodles on the side. It was delicious. Surprising part was that, they actually gave us free fried chicken on the house. Plus the extra noodle on the side was free of charge =). The service here was amazing, the food came out in less than 5 min. Very fast even for a Pho restaurant. The best part was, it was cheap and worth it. They didnt have extra large portions for the Pho, but the owner went out of the way to give us more noodle as we requested for free of charge, which i think was extremely nice. I find it extremely hard to find these kind of customer service around these days, I definitely love this place. The Pho garden on clement is good too. But this place did what the other one couldn't do. Which was ( when asking for extra large bowls, they should've gave it to the customer instead of saying oh sorry that order does not have an extra large option. ) Thank you and I will come again =)

I have never come here leaving the least bit satisfied. But the other night really tops all my experiences, my boyfriend and I walk in, and we linger in the middle of the restaurant deciding on where to sit. I looked at all 3 of the waitresses because thy were looking at us to see what we were doing. When we finally chose our seats, we waited a good 20 before I walked up to the register to ask if anyone was going to take our order. As I was walking back to the table with one of the waitresses, I overhear one of the others say to a coworker "I thought they ordered already." Which is a complete lie because they saw us come in and she was happily talking to the other waitresses which should already tell her no one approached us. They were walking pass our tables helping other costumers around us. PLUS, we still had our menus wide open in front of us. I don't think anyone needs to work at a restaurant to know that an open menu is one of #1 signs that they are looking to order. Whether or not it be a first order or an "add-on". It's official. Definitely not coming back here for Pho. I actually love their pho, just not the crappy service.

This place is great as it is close to were I work in Daly City. I come here often for lunch and order the pho chicken noodle soup. It is my favorite at this spot. The chicken is lean just the way I like it and they make it fast for me. My second favorite is their spicy pork sandwich. With all the food I order I always ask for extra jalapenos as I like things spicier that it comes. The waitress are friendly and always seat me as soon as I get there and very prompt with their service. I definitely come back here more than twice a week.

This is my place to get a decent banh mi sandwich. I like the way they pickle their vegetables and their meats are very tasty and flavorful. My favorites are grilled pork and lemongrass beef. The five spice chicken is good but not my favorite. They also have good Vietnamese coffee and Thai iced tea.

ZERO stars! I would never go back. I like Vietnamese food, but this is the WORSE! I ordered the BBQ pork, and more than half of it was FAT because the low-graded meat was not trimmed. It was so disgusting! They expect people to eat the fat and get a heart-attack afterwards??? My wife ordered Chicken Noodle Soup, and the Chicken was flavorless and tough. They boiled the hell out of it to make the broth, and to us...it was not edible. i told the server, and he doesn't seem to give a damn. No refund was offered even though we filed the unedible portions on a dish so he could see what kind of crap they were serving.

I feel kind of bad giving this place such a low rating because their original location in the Richmond is not bad at all. But this place.. Our waiter barely spoke English. And this location is inside a mall. It took us forever to explain to him that my friend wanted Beef Broth instead of Chicken Broth for her Five Spice Chicken pho bowl. I think he thought instead of Five Spice Chicken, we wanted Five Spice Beef? oh wells. My bowl of pho was tasteless. The broth was not good at all. The noodles were good, but if I didn't add hoisin and sriracha sauce, I would not be able to continue eating. Honestly, I don't know how anyone could do the Pho Challenge here. Because it just didn't taste good at all. 4lbs? of alla that? Yeeeesh. Good luck. In the end, I wish I went over to Panda Express instead next door.

Just tried their pork belly sandwich with special sauce and wowzers! That's a damn good sandwich that tantalized my tastebuds! So good in fact, that next time I might have to get more than one sandwich and more like 2, or 8, or 27. Can't attest to their other fare, but this sandwich alone will have me returning to Pho Garden in the future. And at $4.90 per sandwich, it's a real bargain to boot!

I love Asian food of all walks. Plain and simple. But being a white guy in the bay area I get my fair share of shitty looks and bad service whenever I go to Asian restaurants. That said, I love these people. It may be that I go here every week as I work in the area, but I always get a friendly smile and greeting when I walk in. The ladies are always attentive and helpful and they smile....that's a pretty big deal to me. The food is good. I've had several different things on the menu all of which have been good. The imperial rolls are awesome and the five spice chicken pho is great. Sure it's a little greasy but it's like 6 or 7 bux. Can't expect 5 star restaurant food at that price. I'm tired of being discriminated against at Asian restaurants and I'm glad that there are places that value my dollars over my skin color. Thanks guys

The food here is above average, maybe even good. (their five spice chicken is never dry, and their pho beef soup is consistently flavorful) However, the service needs work. If you are in a rush, or don't have a lot of patience, this isn't the place for you. They will often forget orders, are generally slow to serve, and will often bring out your appetizer after your main course. That said, I go here regularly on lazy Sundays when I don't really mind all that, and just want to sit back and enjoy good vietnamese food.

If you're tired of eating Hot Dog on a Stick and Orange Chicken... If you're tired of circling around 22nd & Geary looking for damn parking just to eat a large #1.... If you're ready to eat a week's worth of sodium in one sitting... If you think that today is the day you're going to attempt the Pho Challenge... Then you're in luck --- Pho Garden in Serramonte is now open! And guess what...they have Garlic Noodles! Yay! You can never go wrong with Garlic Noodles. Mmmmmm....

Came here for lunch with my boyfriend before we headed out for some shopping...I knew we should've gotten something else. I was so excited to tell my boyfriend to try their lemon grass chicken because I had it at the actual restaurant and it was DELICIOUS. What a wrong choice I made. The lemon grass chicken came out to be super dry, so dry that it's almost flavorless. I ordered a five spiced chicken banh mi...so freaking disappointed. I love banh mi's..but this was just bad. The sandwich and chicken was slathered with mayo...A LOT of mayo. I couldn't even eat half the sandwich. I ended up picking out the chicken pieces and peeling off the pieces of baguette that was not soaked with mayo. So disappointed. Service. So bad. Three waitresses and no one came to take our order. Even the guy who seem to be have some sort of authority was wondering why the heck no one is taking our order even after he asked them to. Sorry guy, you were of a little better service than your waitresses...but service in general was just bad. Overall, this Pho Garden should not be compared to the actual restaurant on Clement. The one there has much better service, and food tastes much better. Go there instead!

Trolling around Serramonte and strolled in here to grab a bite. Food came out quick but was mediocre at best. I had the seafood curry which didn't have any flavor, and was lukewarm. Also not enough seafood mostly tripe was in there for some reason. Overall don't see what all the rave reviews I've been hearing are about this place

Mall food! Except you get served and you eat before you pay. Service wasn't great I seen people standing around waiting to be seated with no help. It wasn't even busy. Food came out fast and was ok. Soup was just warm and not even hot for pho. There are many better Viet places around. Sandwiches are ok for $4.50.

let me start off by saying that the CLEANLINESS, CUSTOMER SERVICE and GENERAL OVERALL SERVICE has reached an ALL TIME LOW at this piece O crap place. Today i was ripped off $1 and after i brought it to the attention of the cashier he blamed it on an OLD menu....Give me a fuckin break....should i be upset over a dollar.....YES... and so should you, because if i let it go without catching it how many other people have been ripped off due to an OLD menu....how many other items are you paying more for. Forget that i had to ask for a FORK and some damm NAPKINS and that the lemonade i was charged $2.50 on my bill but says $1.50 on the menu came in a smaller sized glass than all the other soda beverages that were being served in even though the lemonade is grouped with the sodas....and the waitress who neglected to disclose to me that there would be NO refill(s) and be a charge of $2.50 instead of $1.50.....I'M pissed over that $1 but more pissed over the fact that she never even bothered to inform me....as the consumer its your duty as the server to keep me in the know of the changes espicially when it concerns money....I will be blacklisting this place and would urge anyone who believes that they deserve decent service to steer clear of this crappy place....you go there and tell me if you think the servings of noodles have decreased...but one thing i know is the people who keep this place in business deserve a better class of business....a business that you would like to see stay open because they serve quality food and give great service.....this HELL HOLE is not one of these places and i can't wait til they piss off the wrong person or wrong group of people and this place ceases to excist forever.....Go to hell pho garden and i hope you pay for all the people you've ripped off and given horrible customer service too.....NEVER AGAIN should we have to spend our hard earned money in a place like PHO GARDEN

Didn't even know there was a Pho Garden in Serramonte until I saw the banh mi sign. I haven't had one on those in months and now was determined to get one. $4.50 for the combo wasn't too bad. Decent sized and tasted good was all I needed to tell myself that I'll be coming back since it's close to home.

Came here on Monday night for some dinner. Always heard of pho garden because of their pho challenge, 2lbs of meat, 2 lbs of noodle + soup! Of course I didn't even bother trying because I already know this is one challenge I will fail. I never tried the one in the city because I haven't heard good things about their pho. After trying it I must say it's not too bad. The have fresh coconuts for $3, which was yum yum as always! yelp.com/biz_photos/fnt_… Stay away from the fresh orange juice, since it's some Tropicana/Sunny D crap! We had the cha gio - fried imperial rolls, about $6, and was pretty disappointing. The texture was the skin was chewy more than crispy. The lettuce they have here is very tough in texture. They did give a lil dollop of noodles..... but yeah never ordering this again. yelp.com/biz_photos/fnt_… I had pho bo vien (beef ball noodles), which is what I order every time when I eat pho. I will try the bun rieu next time. The pho tasted pretty standard and like most places I've been to. They give you very little bean sprouts though :( The bowl is probably a little smaller than other pho places. I think it was $5.95. The one downside is the noodles seem to be a little overcooked. Rice noodles quick very easily, and it keeps cooking from the heat of the hot soup, so if the noodles are cooked too thoroughly it starts to get very soggy/mushy as time goes on. That is exactly what happened when I was about halfway done. The noodles turned very mushy and soggy. But it doesn't bother me all that much. yelp.com/biz_photos/fnt_… My bf order the pho dac biet (combo/special pho). yelp.com/biz_photos/fnt_… We also tried the five spices chicken with garlic noodles. I know, we are pigs and always order too much food! But the leftovers make good lunches for me. The noodles were very garlicy, which is a plus. The chicken wasn't too bad. Pretty tender and juicy, with a good amount of seasoning/spices. The skin was crispy. yelp.com/biz_photos/fnt_… This place is definitely cleaner than most pho places while maintaining the same quality of food. I think if it wasn't for the Sunny D oj for $3 and the cha gio (a must order item for me at pho places) that I didn't like, I would have given it four stars. I will be back next time I am craving some pho or garlic noodles.

I love this place. Usually get #20, but finally tried their beefstew here. The beef stew here is way better than the one on Clement St. Weird right? Must be the chef.

Pho tastes horrible, from the first bite I already regretted trying to do the Pho Challenge. I was hoping it would taste more along the lines of Pho Huynh Hiep or something, it is no wonder it's so hard to win the challenge. The Pho was basically boiling hot broth with tasteless meat that crumbled in your mouth. After the Pho challenge they apparently ran out of T-Shirts and asked us to leave our phone numbers and the sizes we wear, only to call us several weeks later to tell us they got the shirts in and when my friend arrived to pick them up they only had Larges (none of us asked for a large). Over all it was a pretty bad experience. =]

Surprisingly good for mall food! I mainly go here for the bahn mi sandwiches and they're better than a lot of bahn mis I've had from other Vietnamese restaurants. My favorite is the combo and the grilled pork. The bread is always perfectly toasted, not hard enough to cut the roof of your mouth like some sandwich bread is. There's a good amount of meat and veggies, just the way it should be :)

Yesterday was the first time I've been to Pho Garden, it was also my last. I'm never returning. And this was the first time I didn't feel bad for not leaving tip. My sister and I decided to try it out. There was no one seating us and we saw a line at the register so we thought it was order then sit, but they told us we could just sit anywhere and someone will help us. So we grabbed a menu and sat at a table for two. And after about 8 minutes, we decided to just wave someone to take our orders. We got a bowl of pho, a rice plate, and two drinks off the menu. After 10-15 minutes, the food started coming out. They served the rice plate and we thought they would bring out the pho right after, but it was another five minutes or so before the brought it out. By then, a group of six came and sat at the table next to us, they ordered, got their drinks and veggies for pho right after they ordered. We were almost done eating when I looked over and realized we never got the veggies for pho and our drinks. No one ever came to check on us either. We finished our food, waived someone to get our check. Got our check and had to tell them we never got our drinks so we don't want it anymore. Paid with cash and change to the exact amount and left. We didn't leave tip because we felt that the servers didn't deserve any because they really only did their job (which they get paid for) and nothing better. The food wasn't that great either the meat was overcooked so parts of it was hard. The pho was pretty bland too so I don't know how people can eat a huge bowl for their pho challenge.

Food and service was not up to par. I ordered extra noodles for my daughter and the server said it's $2 more. Fine, I expected that and it's doable. The extra bowl of noodles arrived and there was barely any noodles in a whole bowl of broth. They skimp on the noodles in the regular bowl of pho. When I got the bill, it stated $3 for the extra noodles. Three dollars? Are you serious? The rare beef pho was already $6.95 plus $3 more? You have got to be kidding me. I disputed the bill knowing it's only a dollar difference but if there had been more noodles in the bowl I would have been fine with it. She finally said she would adjust the bill and came back in 2 seconds. The bill was the same amount. She said she had voided it. Where was the void? Tired and frustrated at the lame service I just put down my credit card. She charged the full amount on the card. Left a very small tip and will not be returning. I can go to PPQ on Irving and order a substantial bowl of pho for $6.95.

the food is ok, sometimes the soup doesnt have enough flavor and the chicken in the chicken noodle soup is tough, at other times its just ok. its the only vietnamese cuisine in the mall so we tend to go there when we crave pho, eh. does anyone ever notice a creepy asian guy that works there and keeps staring at us girls? it made me very uncomfortable and it makes me not want to come back.. and isnt drinks supposed to come first, then the food?? not just that, they always forget my sister and i's drinks, and i have to be rude and wave them over to ask for it again. they dont come by to ask if everything is ok with the meal... one more thing, the guy serving us today had a toothpick in his mouth.. really? thats kinda gross.. 2 stars for getting our food super fast.

I was very disappointed with this place as the other Pho Garden in the Richmond district in San Francisco is much better. The prices are expensive, their broths are not good. My mom ordered the Seafood Pho, her broth was super salty. I ordered the Bun Rieu as I was craving for some. I was so disappointed because the broth had no flavor. And their 3 color drink was gross!!! How do you mess that up??? They had some mushy thing in their 3 colored drink that made it extra gross. There are many other options at this food court so I would suggest to steer far away from here. Sad to say, you would probably be better off with some Panda Express next door. Not to mention, service is slow. The waiters stand around, and are inattentive. The one waiter, the younger girl, who was actually doing something, was probably one of the only people running around and was actually busy where as the rest of them are doing I have no idea what.

Place is not bad for a good lunch/dinner when u are at the mall without having to deal with the long lines and the craziness of the food court. We like the garlic noodles with shaken beef... We don't recommend the five spice chicken sandwich, the chicken smelled and tasted like it was not cooked all the way. The service can be slow some days, but overall .. its not bad!

    (2)
  • David N.

Had the 5 spice chicken bun w/imperial roll. The chicken was terrible and they have changed the wrap on the rolls to be the standard egg roll wrap. Other dishes might be better, but the one I had was not good...

I walked in here expecting good food because I come here on a bi-weekly thing because this place use to be a Thai & Viet fusion and the food was awesome for being next to the mall, but I guess not enough ppl come by for it to keep its business. Now it's a Pho Garden. I live in San Francisco and the Pho Garden there sucks. While they both still have their Pho Challenge of 2lbs of noodles and 2lbs of beef... Any given day I would love to take the challenge because I can EAT but I heard the pho freaking sucks ass. And after the experience here it did suck major ass. I've never had such bad pho and I love pho. Anyone who pays 22 freaking dollars to shove down 4lbs of food that's not even tasty makes me feel sorry for them and their stomach. The challenge is a waste of your time and money, NOT worth it at all. The pho here is bland, tasteless and the beef was chewy, I felt super thirsty after, prob filled with MSG. Sadly to say I will never be coming back even if it's the last Pho place on Earth. Harsh but true!!! If I can give it no stars I would but I gave it a one star because the service was wonderful. The food was bad but I still tipped my 15%. It's not the waiter's fault that the food sucked ass.

Usually when a business undergoes a new facelift and a new menu it doesn't get better, it gets worse. This spot is the only exception I have seen! The first time I came here it was because Panda Express has too long of a line, and I was hungry for something with noodles, so I ordered the crispy noodle seafood combination. It was good, so when I came back I decided to try the pho. The pho was tasteless and it was nothing special so I decided not to come back again; if Panda had a line I was going to get cash and get in the smaller line at Chinese Fast Grill. Months go by and I noticed a facelift! Plus the restaurant seems more busy, always a good sign for a restaurant. So I decided to give it a try. The pho completely changed! The broth was delicious, the noodles were plenty. The only thing I would point out is that the meat had a lot of fat on it. Other than that, it was well worth the $7.80 for the combination pho. Since its' change, I would argue: this is the best pho place to go to on this side of Daly City! Plus the customer service is very friendly.

I had the pho with raw steak and well done flank. Not the best pho. Soup was bland and needed a lot of spicy to make it better. Service was slow and inattentive. Would not come back willingly.

This place really does pho well. Not only is the pho damn good, but the parking is so accessible. You have an entire shopping mall parking lot. I most certainly can see myself becoming a usual at this pho garden location. Now only if they would offer more than one size of pho. The bowl they offer is not enough. They need to either add a larger size option or fill the current bowl to the brim.

I don't know what I expected, but not this. I asked my half-Vietnamese friend where we should go in the area for Vietnamese food, and she suggested the mall. I'm not sure if that was purely cuz she works at the mall and it was convenient, or what. I was skeptical about mall food, but since she suggested it, I was willing (and hopeful.) The restaurant (term used loosely) feels blah, with no atmosphere or warmth. The "waitress" dressed more casually than I would for going to the grocery store, and didn't connect with us AT ALL. I didn't feel like she noticed us as people, merely figures to put the plates in front of. The chicken garlic noodles were bland other than the garlic sauce which wasn't good. I think it's hard to mess up a garlic sauce. Anyway, I only ate enough to make me not hungry, then gave the leftovers to her. Ick. I haven't eaten much Vietnamese food in the U.S. and if I hadn't eaten the real thing in Saigon I probably would not have any reason to want to eat it here. I also have cooked Vietnamese dishes, so I'm not criticizing something I can't do.

I eat here from time to time because it's convenient and affordable... and who doesn't like a good bowl of pho in cold Daly City weather? The display menu above the register is, first of all, incomplete, and second, merely states "$" as the price next to each item. I assume that this simply means that all of their menu items are not free. I almost always get the chicken pho, and the fried calamari - the calamari with lime is sublime, and I might up the rating of this place by one star just for that. It's not too hard or flaky, and it's not soggy or drippy. The chicken in the pho is good, and for the most part, they aren't stingy with the meat as I've experienced in other pho restaurants. A lot of the servers are Filipino, and treat you special if you speak Tagalog to them, especially Ginny/Jeannie (not sure how exactly to spell her name.) She's absolutely one of the nicest people ever. The other servers often forget about you, need to be reminded about bringing drinks or condiments, etc. Another complaint I have is that they almost never have the ingredients for their shakes. "Can I have an avocado shake?" / "Oh, no avocado." / "Ok. Cantaloupe." / "We're out of cantaloupe." The only shake they usually have the ingredients for is honeydew, which is written as "honeydrew." And their tapioca is always poorly prepared and rock hard, so I usually skip the boba. I still do need to give some of the other menu items a try, but my usual order is chicken pho, fried calamari, and avocado shakes when they're available.

I didn't really come here for the pho (though I should), but I was in the mood for some banh mi instead. Though I was skeptical for paying $4.50, I was actually surprised to find that it had enough quantity and quality to justify the price. Next time I'll actually try the pho.

Pretty decent place. It's not the best pho, but it will satisfy any pho cravings. On one occasion, when I went with family, they somewhat deprived us of service. It took forever to get our food, but I guess they felt more comfortable with us since my family's Vietnamese and we ordered our food in Vietnamese. They were very nice, though. I've been here a few times, and have had their pho, spring rolls and fried calamari. The pho's pretty standard. The one time I had it, I had consumed a pretty large shard of PLASTIC broken off from a cap or something. I lost my appetite after that. The spring rolls are alright. They premake them and when you go to order, they cut them in half and serve them with a peanutty sauce. And as for the fried calamari, they have a pretty heavy batter on them and are served with (prebrought?) sweet and sour sauce. The calamari I had wasn't very tender and kind of on the chewy side, but they were okay.

Very disappointed with this place. It was really good in the beginning, but I came here couple more times, and the quality already changed. My combination order that had 3 imperial rolls changed to 2 rolls now. Food is cold. Service now is just whatever ~ eat and get out mode.

I love this place. Customer service is extraordinary despite of how busy they get. I usually order their five-spice sandwich (soup, sandwich, or rice plates), definitely a must when you visit this restaurant. I've never had a problem with their cleanliness, the restaurant is always clean and organized. My favorite server is the Filipino woman, I believe her name is Jinie or Jeanie, something like that. She's very accomodating and always in the good mood. My least favorite server is the old Asian woman, she never smiles and act rude whenever I request something. With great customer service, restaurant cleanliness, and very nice staff, this restaurant definitely earns a 5 star!

I did the Pho Challenge at the Pho Garden in SF and had a good time. I didn't come anywhere close to finishing my bowl of Pho but it was more of a chance to hang out with some friends than anything else. Besides that though, I hadn't gotten a chance to stop by the SF shop since then. I was happy to see that Pho Garden came to Serramonte and replaced the previous shop (Pho Paya or something). The previous shop's food was pretty bad and I swore never to come back. With the shiny new Pho Garden name, I have come in three times in the past month. I usually stick with Pho and some variation of the beef dishes. I've come with parents a couple of times and my dad had the five-spice chicken with noodles while my mom had the vegetarian Pho. I've also had the Imperial rolls a couple of times and they've been tasty. I'm hardly a gourmet food eater but I find the noodles to be just fine here. I concur that the service is a little disorganized. You basically seat yourself if there are any tables open. Otherwise, you wait around as the waitresses don't really talk to you much. Beyond that, I haven't had any issues with service. They've taken my order and I've been served in a reasonable amount of time. Pho Garden is probably my second favorite place at Serramonte behind Tokyo Grill.

It was only until I came upon this restaurant that I fully understood what It meant to be enlightened. After indulging in one of Pho Garden's $4.50 five spiced grilled chicken sandwich, I had to pause a moment after the first bite to truly captivate the nuances of its brilliance. The bread was crunchy and somehow soft. Toasted PERFECTLY. When added with sriracha and some black pepper, the sandwich transformed itself into an orchestra of culinary delight. To make things short, this was ONE DAMN GOOD SANDWICH. Every bite was a party in my mouth, and I was definitely invited. Service was fast and our orders came in less than ten minutes. Another item in the menu to look out for is the spicy Bun Bo Hue (or something like that) , which is a spicy broth covered with delicious fish cakes and a generous helping of beef. Unlike SOME pho places, this restaurant was not selfish about their ice water. The ice: water ratio was absolutely delightful- not too watery yet not to icy. All in all, this place is definitely a great place to have a sandwich. The regular broth might be a little bland, but the Bun Bo Hue and the sandwiches are what makes this restaurant so great. I will definitely come to eat here again.

Great place, food and service. Que to a table was not too bad and moved quickly. Customer service was friendly and fast. Kudos to Ginnie! She is like a tornado clearing tables to get people into the tables. Very energetic, friendly and courteous. An asset to this place.

Me and My boyfriend came here after a day of shopping. Thinking that it's in the mall, maybe it has some kind of decency of good service and food. OMG I was so wrong. The food was OKAY.Portion was eeeety BEEEETY small. Meat was dried. I felt bad because I wanted to go here =[. IT TOOK FOREVER FOR THEM TO GIVE US THE CHECK! So when they FINALLY brought us the check and my bf gave them money, his change was never returned lol. We went up there to get it back, and he was nice enough to give them a 2 dollar tip at the end. I would have not given them anything. The waitress thought we had given her the rest of the money. NOTE: Two bowls of Bun Thit Nuong DID NOT add up to $20 does it? NO, of course not. So I expect my change. I won't recommend this place.

Out of all the restaurants in serramonte mall, Pho Garden is the best choice. They accommodate vegetarians very well unlike the other restaurants here. Foods are always prepared fresh and delicious. I like the server name Jinny, she speaks Chinese and Tagalog. I only go there when she's there to take my order because I had an awful experience with the other server, especially the Vietnamese young aged woman. She doesn't speak English very well so she always messes up my order. Please visit this restaurant when you go to Serramonte mall!

i almost NEVER give 1 star reviews but this place has absolutely, without a doubt, the WORST service i have EVER had a restaurant. we ordered pho with egg noodles and shaken beef with garlic noodles. we got pho with rice noodles and beef with rice. hungry, we said eff it. not once did they ever come to check. and i had to wait until the end of my meal to get a glass of water. and to top it all off, there were 4 of us there, our waitress came with 3 glasses of water, and instead of getting me my glass of water, she went and took 2 other tables' orders. i physically had to go up to the counter and ask for a glass of water. she had the audacity to say that she was going to get me a glass of water, i said when? an hour later? i watched the wait staff who seemed as if they were understaffed or overstressed or just plain didnt want to be there. needless to say, based on that one experience i will NEVER come back here and i encourage you to save yourself the trip and find another viet restaurant in the area.

Ehh, its an ok place for some vietnamese food. I've had better in Irving and 19th. The service was so so as well, they seemed to have forgotten bout us sometimes while we were eating and we needed some refills. If you want some really good vietnamese food, i would suggest going to Irving and 19th Ave for some

Yay! I was pleasantly surprised to find a healthy food restaurant at the Serramonte mall. I was doing some shopping and was starving and checked out the food court, and am happy I walked in here. They don't have the prices on the overhead menu, but you sit down and they take your order, so it isn't really take out cause you end up leaving a tip.... but, the food was pretty damn good. I got the chicken spiced claypot with rice, and for $8 I thought that was a good value. Heck I paid much more at Out the Door on Bush st. for similar food, and I thought Pho Garden was superior! go figure I would go to the mall just to eat here, and try more stuff on the menu.

I came here because I saw that they sold sandwiches. I usually buy mine at Quickly. But here its was $5 for a sandwich and a soda. Its okay for the price. But the sandwich is really good compared to Quickly. ( No expert in Pho sandwiches, my first time eating one is at Quickly)

This place is surprisingly good for being in a mall food court. If you eat in, they have a nice dining area which is separate from the rest of the food court, and it feels more like you're in a regular restaurant. I've both eaten in and taken food to go, and the food is consistently good with large portions. The service while eating in can be hit or miss. Sometimes I wait quite a while, trying to flag someone down to take my order. The food comes out quickly, and then it can be another task trying to get the check. I was going to knock this review down to only 3 stars because of the service speed, but I had a really good experience recently which brought my opinion back up: The most recent time that I ordered to go, I was chatting with my husband near the door (he had ordered food elsewhere) whilst waiting for my food. The girl who had taken my order walked over and brought my food over to me when it was ready. Yay, great service!

Came here the other day with my mom. She had a coupon for a buy one get one free vietnamese sandwich. Seemed like a good idea so we thought we'd give it a try. It was written on a chalkboard that the sandwiches were $5.00 with a soda or $4.50 for just the sandwich. My mom wanted the soda but they said if we use the coupon, not only does she not get the soda, but the sandwiches cost $5.50. Understandable since we were getting a free one but paying $5.50 for a vietnamese sandwich is pretty pricey. Anyway, I got a 5 spice chicken and my mom tried the pork. My mom was very specific asking the waitress if she could put them in separate bags and also to let us know what was in each bag so we wouldn't get our sandwiches mixed up. When our sandwiches were ready, of course I wasn't surprised that they gave it to us in one bag. So my mom asked the waitress which sandwich was hers and which one was mine. The waitress asked another server and her answer back to us was that they are too busy and don't have the time to tell us which sandwich is which. I was shocked that she came back with that answer. How hard is it to use a sharpie and mark each sandwich. If they couldn't do it she should have let us know when we requested it and we probably wouldn't have ordered it. So obviously I'm not happy with there service. Now on to their food. The sandwich was so small. I understand being in a mall I would expect to pay more than going to the tenderloin or richmond district but the size was a joke. Being a small business owner myself, I usually would not write such a horrible review. But in this case, I want to warn all my fellow yelpers that they should be cautious before eating at this establishment.

One star for this restaurant. I've been going to this place several times. The food was OK, but the grilled pork chop was under-cooked and greasy but they have the best grilled pork sandwich, which is cheaper, and tastier than your local Subway sandwiches. One thing I have to point out is their horrendous service -- one of the worst Asian restaurants in SF Bay Area in terms of service. Their waiters, especially the young guy with a tiny bit of hair, are unprofessional and poorly trained. I had to ask water several times; I had to ask the waiter to bring me steak knife and fork several times; and I had to go to the cash register to pay for my meal because waiters were too busy. This place should be named "Self-service Fastfood Place". The food, grilled pork, was under-cooked and I had to send it back. Bad experience.

Never been to the one in the city, so when I heard they were opening one in Serramonte I had to go. Always get rare steak and beef balls in my pho, but the cashier messed up my order which was cool. Broth was yummy, noodles weren't hard and stuck together like at a lot of places I've been to. This is probably my go to pho joint now in Daly City. I just don't like that it's in the mall too many boppers boppin around.

I usually don't like writing nasty reviews because I came to a understanding that every restaurant can have their off days which can be due to various reasons such as short staff or what not. But this particular experience was not great I was craving for Vietnamese food so bad and just found out that Pho Garden just open in Serramonte. I've always been told there food wasn't all that good but I believe every place deserve a chance. But to my VERY disappointment I didn't even get to have a chance to try their food. Their service is HORRIBLE!!!!!!... We came by on Monday last week around 6pm. The restaurant was barley even half full. There was around 4 - 5 staff that was too busy gossiping among themselves while my boyfriend and I waited patiently. After a good 5 min of trying to catch these ppl attention, there was no luck... so we went to Panda express, which was right next door.. I will definitely NOT go back there again.... Even though I didn't get the chance to try their food, I rather go some where more welcoming.

Short and simple, Pho Garden had tasty pho, delicious thai iced tea, and a great ambiance for what is essentially part of a food court. I had the rare beef pho, and my beau had the mixed beef (tripe, tendon, brisket, meatballs, and rare steak) pho. For $5.95, I basically had two meals. Served hot, I made sure to add lots of thai basil, and a good hit of siracha. With the price they offer, and decent service (I don't expect my drink refilled before it's empty at a food court), it was a great deal. We'll definitely be back. By the way: They have a food challenge here. 2lbs of pho, 2lbs of beef, one hour. Finish, and you get your meal for free, along with a really cute GIANT pho bowl. Don't finish? You get a tshirt. We may try this :)

wow finally a pho place at the mall that doesn't taste nasty. I been here several times and the pho ga is good. there are still many items on the menu that i want to try. but let me tell you not to order garlic noodles because there's no taste! it's bland. the five spiced chicken is good. Also the sandwiches are alright but a bit pricey.

Place is fantastic. Food is pretty on par with the other top rated Pho places in San Francisco. Although I couldn't quite give them a perfect 5 since they misinterpreted my order. Overall a great alternative to the selection of mall food in Serramonte, their Thai tea is impeccable :3

I'm sorry to say that either the broth has changed or the quality went to the poopers, but this place no longer has the best Pho in the Bay. My wife is sorely disappointed as well. She used to love this place, but we no longer come here for Pho. Instead, we fly down to Westminster, CA whenever we crave Pho Kimmy. Update: Pho Kimmy is not consistent. Hit or miss on certain days. However my new favorite Pho joint is now Pho 79 on Hazard/Brookhurst. They've been pretty consistent for at least a decade or 2.

I will never ever eat at this Pho garden again, EVER! Before I moved to my current city, I lived in Daly City and used to eat Pho Garden all the time, almost twice a week. Well...I came for a visit this time and brought my girlfriend there three times in our four day visit. The first day was okay, they got our order quickly and absolutely did not put meat into my vegetarian girlfriend's fresh spring rolls, which is a plus for us. The second day we ordered our fresh spring rolls, one without pork and one with, we took it to go and tried to eat it while we waited in the long line at starbucks, in the mall. We opened the containers and seen how sloppy these spring rolls were prepared, but we didn't really mind it because we were hungry. AND THE LAST DAY we were there, I decided to order the Rare Steak pho this time instead of just spring rolls. My girlfriend still ordered her no pork spring rolls. We took it to go so we could eat it in the food court, the minute she opened her spring rolls up and took the 6 pieces apart, she discovered A BUG in her spring rolls. This immediately pissed her off and I didn't believe it until I saw it. A black nat was crawling around the lettuce. It came from INSIDE the spring roll and crawled out onto the top. She went back into Pho Garden and explained her situation. Not even 5 minutes later, I went to eat my Pho and seen a grey spider looking bug and freaked out. I went back inside as well and explained what happened. In a span of 20 minutes, my girlfriend, my auntie and I all had bugs in our food. We were so disgusted that they gave us our money back. I talked to an old high school friend about this because she once worked at the Serramonte Pho Garden. She told me that the hours were bad and that she didn't trust it there. A Customer had found a METAL SPRING in his pho. So, if you want Pho and you live close to Serramonte, I recommend going to Pho 99, Pho Huynh Hiep 3, or Pho The Gioi.

i really like the one on clement and it's still good considering it's in the food court of the mall. food is still good, but service lacks really bad. first time they forgot my food and i ordered first. i ordered beef on the side pho. my friends ordered pho too and 2 rice plates and egg rolls. my order never came and of course when we told them and when my pho finally came out of course the beef wasn't on the side so they had to do it again. i guess they knew i was upset cuz when the bill came, they gave me a 10 percent mall discount so that was nice. 2nd time: ordered 2 bowls of pho. the gave us garlic noodles and rice plate. when the pho came they never gave us the bean sprouts or peppers. we gave up asking. sigh!

So I've ordered to go from here before, when it first opened, and I was disappointed when they didn't have egg noodles as an alternative option and even more when they told me they could only take cash. But I gave them the benefit of the doubt since they had just opened this location and my friend had raved about the one in the Richmond District. The pho was ok, I'm not a huge fan of rice noodles so I was iffy. I ordered a grilled chicken and shrimp rice plate a few times (also to go) which was pretty good. Today my boyfriend and I ate here, in the actual facility for the first time. The wait was so so, although the workers seem pretty disorganized and they have their own entrance rather than having to go through the mall, which they happened to lock today, when it was raining...so that put us off a little because not only are we getting wet, it's embarrassing...anyways! The waitresses were running around like they didn't know what to do since it was busy and then after having 2 parties ahead of us finally be seated and with one just in front of us, these guys come from the mall area and cut us and a whole long line of people behind us, I was annoyed and the couple in front of us was irritated too, why was the staff so disorganized that they were not paying attention to who was next? They finally seated us and the guys realized they had cut a long line of people and gave their table up (I applaud you gentlemen for doing so, that was the right thing to do). I ordered a grilled pork sandwich, it wasn't the best I've had but it was pretty good. And my boyfriend and shared a bowl of rare steak and brisket pho with egg noodles, I had to add a whole lot to make the broth flavorful enough how ever I'll say the brisket had less fat than what I'm accustomed to which was nice but I have a feeling that may have contributed to the lack of flavor and hardiness to the soup itself. The noodles were a little over cooked for my taste, I don't like them too soft. It would be nice if they had fountain drinks instead of having to pay for an additional can of soda when we're still thirsty. All in all I wasn't too impressed, but it'll satisfy my craving while I'm in the city and can't get to my favorite pho restuarant Saigon Bistro in Concord. This place has potential if they make some adjustments: Get a host/hostess or keep the seating/register in one main area so there is no confusion amongst potential costumers as to where to go to be seat. Get fountain drinks. Be more careful not to over cook the noodles. Check on the tables more often- ask how everything is or if we need anything Food - 3 stars Service - 2 stars I'm willing to give them another chance.

For a mall, it has a fairly good Pho spot. I've tried it several times and has never been disappointed thus far! Have yet to try their sandwiches though.

DO NOT COME HERE. Not even worth one star. I've never experienced this much anger towards a restaurant until last night. I walk in with my sister, and there were about two groups of people dining there. One group, a younger crowd, looked like they've been hanging there for a while while the other group just sat down. As I'm looking around the restaurant, waiting for someone to even greet us, I kindly ask the group of employees at the register chatting if we sit ourselves down. I was ignored. I thought they couldn't hear me and asked again. I was ignored. I then proceed to walk up to the register, asked if we can be seated, and was IGNORED. luckily, the menus were right in front of the cashier so I grabbed two and sat us down ourselves. The waiter finally managed to get to our table, and all he could say was a half assed "sorry". I ordered the garlic noodles and Pho. Both were bland and BORING. We waited another 20 minutes trying to get the waiters attention. My sister finally makes eye contact with a young woman who I assumed was the manager, and asks her for our check. She nodded, then proceeded to give another tables Check to them, socializing, and never comes to our table after. Our original waiter finally comes back and I had to ask him for the check again and by this point I was livid. I had to just leave this hell hole so I paid my bill with NO TIP and vow to never come back to this place. Trust me, the Pho and the service are not even worth the trip. I hate this "restaurant"!!

I've had the rice plate, the pho, and this weekend, the banh mi -- all delicious! The best part of Sunday's meal, though, was the customer service: my sandwich took awhile due to some miscommunication in the kitchen, but when it was brought to my table, it came with an apology and a Vietnamese iced coffee on the house. I was blown away: customer service in a mall fast food court?!? Amazing! I'm a loyal customer from now on!

I love eating pho! When we first went into this place, we were seated promptly and there was enough room for our daughters stroller. Within a minute of us looking at our menu the server asked us if we were ready and every two minutes thereafter. I ordered the Shrimp Pho and added chicken and steak to it. The chicken was plain and flavorless, and the shrimp was not completely deveined (GROSS), other than that it was delicious and filling. My husband ordered the curry chicken and thought is was okay.

Me: "Can I have white meat only for chicken pho?" Waitress: "Yes, it's white meat only!!" Sure enough I saw boneless chicken thigh pieces. The taste isn't even right....Please note you can't fool me since I only eat chicken breast, no matter how you slice or ground I'd know what chicken pieces you put. Chicken wasn't fresh at all and tough. No service, they were just joking around with frequent filipino customers. I'm not biased but it's the fact and I'm not crying over it since I will never go back anyway.

On the hunt for some convenient banh mi and had no idea Pho Garden sold sandwiches (albeit at an overpriced mall food court rate). I ordered the combination, my default choice to gauge an establishment's banh mi deliciousness. The sandwich itself was fairly decent sized. The bread was too hard though; it seemed like it was over-toasted (gee, I hope they weren't trying to overcompensate for something--that had better not be over-toasted stale bread! -___-). Lots of pate and cold cuts; yum! Not enough marinated veggies, but bonus cucumber, which some places forgo. The sprig of cilantro seemed fresh enough. My to-go sandwich took longer than expected, but the friendly girl manning the registered came over to apologize for the long wait. The seating area was lofty and bright with lots of space between tables so you won't feel crowded. The staff seemed attentive enough. Bonus points for being attached to a mall with lots of parking space around (unlike its Richmond district counterpart). All in all, an okay sandwich. Wouldn't be my first choice, but if I'm desperate, I'll take it. =P

My boyfriend and I were shopping at seremonte mall and stumbled upon this restaurant. We were suprised that a mall would have a pho place and was reluctantly about going in because it was located in a food court. The place looked nice and clean so we decided to give it a try. When we first walked in a lady asked us from afar whether it was togo or for here. After telling her it was for here she flipped her hand and said sit anywhere and walked away. Not caring about her attitude we sat down at a table. The good thing was the menu and waters came out quickly. For the only person running the front the lady seemed to be efficent. So for our late brunch we decided to get two sandwiches. I got the five spice chicken sandwich and my boyfriend got the regular pork. The five spice chicken sandwich wasnt all that great. They had all the right components in the sandwich as in the diced carrots and and jalepenos and calantro but as for the chicken .... it wasn't a "WOW'. The texture of the chicken wasnt alittle weird , maybe its because im used to it being grilled and here they seem to have put it in the microwave for like 10 seconds and put it in the bread. I thought the pork one was a little better. Over all our meals were decent. Didnt cost us very much ( 4.50 per sandwich). Oh yeah , my boyfriend also ordered the thai tea. Just letting yall know that there thai tea is extremely creamy . Ive tried better elsewhere. Id probably come back if im in the mall and happen to be craving for some sandwich and dont want to drive far.

Yum! I have been there twice now and enjoy having a good food choice at the mall. The vietnamese sandwiches are great, not as good as Saigon Sandwiches in SF, but pretty darn good. My favorite is the Tofu, and I'm eager to try the pork belly one next time. My daughters had the pho with rare beef and said it was great. The garlic noodles were okay, but a little gummy.

This redundant is located in Serramonte Mall next to the food court. Which is convenient when craving pho after shopping. The food was ok, nothing amazing. I have tried other Pho restaurants in the area that were definitely much better. The seafood combo had minimal seafood and seemed loaded with broccoli (other places I've been had decent portions of seafood). I don't know why my brother ended up having 2 more shrimp then me (I had only 2). My boyfriend complained his meatball and steak soup had little noodles. The soups also didn't have much flavor. We literally had to add so much siracha, soy sauce and hoisin sauce to get some sort of flavoring. What was the best out of our entire meal was the coconut shake. It was fresh and refreshing. Not sure if I'll be back. But I'll probably stick to other Pho restaurants that I know are better.

O Freaken MG, are you serious. I ordered a Vietnamese sandwich and the size of jalapeno was at least an inch and the thickness is quarter an inch. What the knife is that dull or half ass done. And where's the grilled pork. Grilled? Taste fried pork with sugar. I heard thru friends this place is good. Dont mine the yelp. LOL the yelpers are right. Customer service is great, attentive and very friendly.

I was looking for a good salad at the mall food court, no luck! So I got Green papaya salad here and it was really satisfyingly good! It was $8 kinda expensive for what it is.

The structure of servicing and hosting is quite unorganized here! There were different waiters taking our orders and we had to repeat it a couple of times to secure that our orders were right to different waiters! I ordered up their cold dish with five spice chicken and imperial rolls. Their chicken could be much more flavorful as well as their imperial rolls. It satisfied, nonetheless. Their pho broth was spot on. Servicing got it together when the orders were taken. They asked if we wanted a refill on our waters and so forth. It is located in a food court mall, so the expectations are of the standards. This is more of a restaurant in a food court, so good servicing should be expected.

Avoid at all costs!!!! Service, although friendly, was neither attentive, responsive, or fast. Food preparation was terribly slow. Took over 25 minutes to get the food out. I can't recall ever waiting more than 10 minutes for a bowl of pho...anywhere!!!! Food quality was beyond horrendous! The noodles were clumpy, the broth was disgusting, the meat was dry, the chicken was flavorless. SMH.... Last three words: THIS PLACE SUCKS!!!!!!!!

    (1)
  • Ralph N.

I mean it's not terrible...but not worth going when you have a craving for Vietnamese food. There are better pho places nearby. It's fairly clean. A lot of their services are self-serve (water, silverware, etc). Garlic noodles were ok. Wouldn't order it again. The pork chops were good though. I wouldn't come back soon...

I don't know what the hell just happen. Every changed again! Is like they change the floor planning every few months or so. I liked how you just ordered your food and grab a number and take a seat system (if your dinning in). Now, it just back to the usual. Empty tables are dirty that they wipe down the messed while your sitting. Who does that?? The food quality is getting much worst. I usually order the combination pho but the broth was too salty. The other time I ordered the 5 spice chicken pho, the chicken isn't fully cooked. The main problem is that the prices up and they inforced the rule that you have to pay a minimum of $10.00 to used any type of debt/credit card. Wtf! After going there couple of times as a regular, sadly I won't be coming back. Bye.

Combination pork sandwich = Okay. Just okay. Way too much mayo. Bread ratio is too high. $6.50 My friend's pho = okay. It's good, if you're hungry. If you're looking for top notch, this place is not it. Not a lot of meat for the price. $8.00 Service = okay. Prices = moderate. Mall prices. Cute UP artwork, clean, and friendly.

I dont know what in the hell happened to my judgement call this weekend. Picking Green Bay and St.Louis to win but both got pounded instead. Next thing i know the fam and I decide on going to pho garden....and what happens?...a bloody sh*t-fest... It is alread troubling when the waiter/server in charge is not very well versed in neither English nor Vietnamese... Cases in point... A)Papa bear is asking him if broken rice is avaliable to be served with the BBQ pork rice plate.. Waiters response: 'ohh you want salad dish?" (-1) B) Me: Can i get a number 11(pho tai) and thai tea .. ...waiter then directs a Seafood Combination to our table....yikes... (-1) I swear just based on todays interaction, the server is just going through the motion but doesn't the words coming from his own mouth. English or vietnamese, i think even google translate couldn't help him. -1 For a beyond left field response as well as poor service quality. (ie:chopsticks provided after the bowl comes. -1 For rushing through tables and not knowing which order goes to which table. -1 For rushing patron orders even though other tables are sitting around without even being given a menu to see yet. PHO- _.I DONT KNOW HOW YOU SCREW UP PHO TAI _ Nvm...PG just did....(-2) By the time the bowl arrived at the table. The meat was well done...like hot pot garden type of well done.. But as much as i sas hungry. ..the broth was just saturated in MSG...that whole thirsty dry mouth feel we all dread is very prominent here...oh man.. i couldn't even get past 1/5 of the bowl. (See pic) IF you choose to order Bun Bo Hue here.. it carries more oil and fatty gunk than Beef Stew from Tong Kee Noodles... just a warning. Seriously. ...what..in...the..hell...

My friend and I were craving pho and this place was clutch! I was really hungry and on a low budget. First off, this place really gives you bang for your buck, at about $7 I got a big bowl of pho with noodles and beef. The noodles were really good and I used siracha sauce for the first time, more bomb! Also, the food came out in about 2 minutes which made me really happy because I was hungry. I would definitely choose this spot for Vietnamese food when you're south and not far from SF.

Convenient location inside serramonte mall. Friendly service but food did not taste good. Photo was tasteless and cold noodle was hard and dry. Chairs floor , trays were sticky. Please clean the place once in a while. Not coming back.

Dined here on a Saturday morning just before the crowd set in. We tried the imperial rolls, grilled pork chops and fried chicken wings--all of which were very delicious! The staff are friendly and service is quick. The ambiance is bright and very welcoming. I would definitely recommend whenever you're in Serramonte Mall.

First off let me just say they are VERY Disorganized here. There were literally 5-7 tables that were dirty. They had only 1 Server clean up everything and I had to tell her we need a clean table. She tried to pick up as fast as possible but that is So unprofessional. GET IT TOGETHER. I only ordered one item and that was their chicken noodle soup. It was dee-lish and filling. Paying I stood in line for 5 whole minutes because they were understaffed. The manager apologized. I think they could really hire Bussers and a few hostesses. Everyone is just running around everywhere not paying attention.

I've been here a few times and if there was one thing that has been consistent about this location, it's the interior floor plan. I swear that it changes every few months or so. The latest trends for this place is getting rid of table service altogether so customers have to order at the front, get a number and then they'll deliver your food to your table. Nonetheless, I usually come here if I have a pho craving and there isn't any decent Vietnamese restaurant close by or my craving wouldn't be able to last long and literally eat away at my consciousness. Most of the food here is pretty standard for Vietnamese so whatever you've had before in other Vietnamese restaurants, chances are they they'll have it. Their standard pho here has a nice broth. The amount of meat in each bowl is above average which I commend, but the amount of noodles is much less compared with the meat. Shame... Still tasted quite nice despite this however. Grilled pork chops, another standard, has only a whole pieces a half a piece in each plate rather than 2 whole pieces. Another shame... As with the pho, this plate hit the spot. Overall, Pho Garden is a solid place to grab lunch or an early dinner. Iron out some of their dishes and they've got a winning recipe for repeat customers!

This place has fallen from a tolerable 3 stars maybe a few years back to frankly a 1 star. The kitchen - dirty Tables - greasy, dirty, filthy Waitstaff - slow, unfriendly, incompetent The food - small portions, non-fresh ingredients, salty and watered down with canned chicken broth beef pho Somebody should call the health inspector. I give this place like 6 months before they fold up and close. I regret not spending my money at the Quick Grill or Panda Express frankly. This place is disgusting. The signs show an indifferent management that just doesn't care. Guess you also don't care about making money, because I hope you go out of business. They should include a bottle of Imodium with each meal for the diarrhea their food will cause you. Avoid avoid avoid avoid avoid avoid.

Great place for pho after or before shopping or just to grab some bugs mi for a quick meal. The have their own dinning area separate from the main food court area. And they have there own exit. And a right across the way from a boba place

Food isn't too bad. The pho, crispy imperial rolls and rice plates are all tolerable, but Yowza!!! The service, ordering process, and clean up is unreasonably broken. Maybe it's a busy Saturday but the wait, uncleanliness, and the mayhem of workers shuffling around-you almost feel bad. I may not eat here again... Just to help them out.

Unbelievably spacey staff. Truly. Finally came to check this place out after many times seeing it while standing in line at Panda Express. I'm still not ready to try what looks like Filipino Pho, only wanted to dip my toe in by getting a young coconut to go. Ordering went well, cashier tells guy stocking drinks to open a young coconut and prep it to go. He comes back with it unwrapped, so cashier has to tell him it Is to go. We sit down and wait, and watch the mayhem. Guy goes in back again, wraps in Saran Wrap then walks by my outstretched arms and tries to give it to a lady who nearly has to beat him away saying it's not hers. Then he hands my food to some other lady and he goes back to stocking the drink fridge. A new staffer puts my food in a bag and I think finally I can get out of here. I walk up to her and say "that's mine," but she walks past me again and tries to give it, again, to this lady who tells her "that's not mine!!" She starts walking by me AGAIN and I block her way, tell her to give me my food, she turns to the guy who ring me up and asks if I paid for it (duh), and I nearly yank it from her hands and make a beeline from the store. My partner was just sitting there watching these clowns work and was shocked how bad they operate. Oh my god, this place is beyond help, thank the lord we didn't try getting them to actually cook something for us. And $6 Banh Mi?? Vietnamese food outside OC and SJ is typically so-so to bad, this place probably uses bullion for broth. It's back to Panda Express for us.

Worst 5 spice chicken and garlic noodles I've ever had in my life!!!!!! I had a craving that I thought would be satisfied but instead I was repulsed by what this place gave me. Too bad I forgot to take a picture of it. I couldn't eat it!! Wasted about $15 for bland chicken that seemed like it was boiled and then tossed into a bitter sauce and put unto my plate. The garlic noodles were bland, overcooked, and lacking garlic flavor. The only thing that was okay was the shredded cucumbers and carrots that came with it. I was so disappointed!!! I will never order there again! Ever!!

  • Dominique G.

Did not fry my egg correctly and repetitively used same sauce for main course and appetizers, my rice was not cooked to the way it should be. They have Filipino cooks and waiters at this restaurant. The only thing that was perfect was the fountain drinks and imperial rolls, so save yourself the trouble and order somewhere else.

I made a yelp just to warn people about this terrible terrible place. I would give this place zero stars if I can. I've been avoiding this place due to the bad service but I decided to give them another chance and it was truly a mistake. They gave me the worst sit in experience ever. I ordered the five-spice chicken vermicelli and I was eating and thought it was decent then it freaking happened... A BUG CRAWLED OUT FROM UNDER THE LETTUCE AND STARTED CRAWLING ALL OVER THE FOOD. A LIVE BUG. I have never felt so disgusted with a restaurant in my life, this place takes my record as the worst place to eat. NEVER EAT HERE UNLESS YOU WANT BUGS IN YOUR FOOD OR YOU WANT TO RISK GETTING SICK

For being in the mall this this place is good. It's clean and pretty decent for Vietnamese food if you're in the mall. It's not a place I crave, it just happens to be convenient. There banh mi are pretty tasty and you can't really mess up vermicelli noodles so whenever you walk around the mall and crave some pho I suggest here. Be prepared to seat yourself and get your own water because that part is all self service. The staff can be kind if difficult with things like splitting checks sometimes too so just take cash like you would to any other Asian place. Another plus is that they have the pho challenge on Mondays which is something I've always wanted to do and get my picture taken. Try it people let's see who loves pho the most.

Went to have pho with my friend. I've been here before and the broth is like water. But what made yesterday's visit the worst.... I was really hungover and needed a good bowl of pho. Well I finished my food and my friend then pointed out a cock roach crawling on the window next to us.... I immediately lost my lunch in the parking lot. We had to pay for our food as well after I showed them there's a roach in their establishment. I highly recommend looking at these places food handling scores.

I ordered the pork chop combo and combination beef noodle soup. The pork chops where thin like beef jerky, the chicken wings that came with it had a bunch of oil on the plate. The soup tasted okay but I don't know why it was so brown and murky. Two star is because the waitress was very nice.

Came here with my mom to eat lunch since we were both craving for pho. When you first walk in, when one of the workers ask you how many people, they just tell you can sit any where rather than showing which table to sit. Even though its a vietnamese restaurant, theres no vietnamese workers at all. Non-vietnamese workers. We both got the pho combination (number 10). Pho was decent. The broth was just warm but has enough flavor. It does have enough meats though and decent amount of noodle. The price is right for a medium size bowl (cost around $7ish). I also had the fresh coconut drink which comes out in the actual coconut shell. Cost about $3 which is kinda expensive when you can get it for 1.30 at an asian grocery store. But the coconut was still good. The juice and meat part seems fresh and you can easily scoop out the meat part. Service was quick. They brought out the food within 10 minutes after our our. Friendly staffs. Its one of those restaurant where you can do the pho challenge. All in all i think its just am average restaurants and decent food for a mall food

Not bad for mall food. I wasn't in the mood for the sad panda bad Chinese or dried out pizza so, I decided to give this a try. The guys working here welcomed us in and got the drinks right away. We ordered the Phone Garden bahn mi and the chicken noodle pho. The sandwich wasn't bad. It's nothing to write home about but, better than most other mall options. The pho was ok too. A bit of hoison and some siracha set it straight. Would I seek this place out? No OTOH, If I'm stuck in the mall while *someone* is shopping for shoes.... I'd give it another go.

After seeing all the negative reviews, I decided to come back to Pho Garden to see if the restaurant had really changed. Had Combination Noodle and Five Spice Chicken Noodle and was pleasantly surprised about how good they were! I'm giving it a five star because the managers made sure we were well taken care of. Although I struggled speaking to one of the employees who apparently only recently arrived from Vietnam, I'm very pleased with the food and the managers' customer service. Still a five star from me :)

I came here once before for pho and it wasn't particularly memorable. Being situated in a mall food court, this Pho Garden is very food court like with its ginormous dining area. I was confused about whether to order with the cashier or take a seat as there are menus on all empty tables. Anyway, this review is mostly for the banh mi which I had on my most recent visit. Let me say, I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, it's $5 a sandwich, which is double what you'd pay in the south bay, but the sandwiches are actually tasty. I have very rigid standards for what makes a good Viet sandwich, so if I like your banh mi you are winning. I always order the cold cut sandwich because it is the OG of Vietnamese sandwiches. There was definitely a generous serving of meat, the pate was good as well as the mayo. The bread was crispy and crumbled everywhere which is to be expected when you eat banh mi. The mister ordered the grilled pork. The pork was very well marinated and was nice and warm. I've had plenty of grilled pork sandwiches where the grilled pork is cold (*ahem* Lee's) All in all, despite the steep price this will be my spot for Viet sandwiches in my neighborhood.

The service has gone down. Came here for a guick lunch, it took about a good 20 minutes before the pho shows up. And the where out of Vietnamese ice coffee. How in the world can you be out of coffee?

Don't even want to give a start. Bad and EXTREMELY slow service The food was alright, not all that amazing. But the wait was bad. Ordered 30 mins ago, food didnt come until 15 mins after we asked where was our food. 45 min wait was not worth the wait.

You can never not have a pho place in a Daly City mall. Pho Garden is a sit down restaurant but also offers quick take out. They have all the regular dishes - pho, bun, rice dishes, various apps and drinks. They also offer bahn mi. Definitely will try that at some point. The pho is pretty standard. Large portions. I like the combination pho. Service is snappy and nice.

  • Cynthia F.

Now that the original wait staff was returned to serve its customers, the service is quicker and more efficient, especially with the assignment of seat numbers. Pho Garden is also a family run business, so once in a while we see one of Jeannie's older son serving customers. So far, the food has been consistent as it was when they overhauled the menu....healthier and bigger portion. What's more, is that the flavor of the soup is what it should be....from either beef or chicken and not some watered down canned soup. For a restaurant in a mall, Pho Garden strives to serve good quality, satisfying and flavorful Vietnamese food. I'm not Vietnamese, but I like Vietnamese cuisine. My family agrees Pho Garden serves healthy and flavorful food in a mall. Oh, and by the way, the art work hanging on the restaurant walls were created by Jeannie and Alex's young daughter, Ashley. :-)

Places like this reminds me that zero stars need to be an option on yelp! There shouldn't be a participation star, this isn't kindergarten! Truly horrid food (the vermicelli used pasta noodles -- seriously, really, c'mon!). Pho was extremely bland. Worst of all, the tables smelled like dirty dish towel. I couldn't get out of there soon enough. The service was so unfriendly that I felt like I was in prison and had to eat whatever crap was placed in front of me or risk being shanked. Truly AWFUL. My biggest regret was not yelping before subjecting myself to this hellhole. Clearly I am not alone in my feelings.

I have been here a couple times and I have to say, that some of the negative comments aren't true. The first time I came to Pho Garden was on July 12, 2014. Firstly, when I came in, this lady greeted me kindly and said I can sit down anywhere, and although I have to admit that the new system was not quite as good as the last time it didn't really bother me at all. Secondly, I ordered the garlic noodles and the five spice chicken noodles. The garlic noodles looked absolutely delicious and not only that but it smelled just right. Also the five spice chicken noodles was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! It was cooked just right that it tastes like perfection. Lastly, I was totally filled and i must say I will be coming more and more often.

I've been here once before and the pho wasn't bad, but today my girlfriends and I came to eat and the bun bo hue was soooo bland. We had to request for the soup base's sauce to add for more flavor :( that's no good. I gave them two stars for service and for the extra limes they gave without asking. Other than that I'm pretty disappointed in the food quality. Ill stick to pho next time but I doubt I'll be back here for authentic viet food.

Great service, shitty food. Sorry friends, you might want to drive 5 minutes away to Pho Saigon.

Quality of food is getting worse and worse every time I come here. I always get the combination pho. Meat is rubbery and their customer service is not any good. I used to come here all the time but today may be my last day

You know what's disappointing? Waiting almost 30 min for Pho to go. You know what's even more disappointing? Hoping to rate them on yelp with a 2 star snack in the face only to see that they already have a 2.5 star rating and this won't effect them at all :-( Guess it is par for the course. Next time, Panda Express next stall over.

Decent Vietnamese food restaurant inside the food court with it's own dedicated seating so you don't have to fight for food court seating. Quick, not a super clean place but decent.

The Geary location had much better food. Too bad that one closed down. The Pho Garden at this location sucked. We had to order before we sat down and the ordering took too long. Most of the tables were dirty. Napkins, bean sprouts, lemon and mint were all self-served. The only problem is that some of these ran out and no one refilled them. The lemons I got were slimy so I have no idea how long they were out for.... I got a pho with beef balls and rare steak. The soup was watered down and lacked taste. The place was also stingy with the meat. Gross. Never coming back.

Came here for a work break and really enjoyed it. It is also convenient because if you ride SamTrans you can get right off and eat. Luck is nothing when you come here because you do not need unless you want to take the pho challenge. What I mean by luck is nothing is once you sit down someone immediately comes and helps you. It is a far cry from the saying "if you are lucky fast service will come". I have not tried the pho challenge but if me and my DC friends or co workers come then maybe we will give it a shot. If you hate to get your money sucked up for the wrong foods then you must come here. One star off because it took me a long time to decide whether or not to eat here, the first time I came. Don't let the prices scare you, they are not that bad if you have or make enough money. If you are in the mood for over B+ grade food then come here.

Genie and lennie are so sweet and accommodating! Trust that if you come here every weekend for no fuss no muss pho and sandwiches, they will reach out and remember you. Pho is good, and giant summer rolls! If you don't like crowds and want some chicken noodle soup then come in early and they will take care of you. I even left my credit card and they were able to keep it for me and I picked it up a week later.

They dont use gloves handling the food. Theyre rude and what bothers me the most is how dirty and unsanitary they are. They do not even use gloves when touching and cooking the food. Hella nasty

I'm writing this review as I'm eating here, it's so bad I just couldn't wait.... Tables are all dirty here not wiped after cleaning the bowls and plates off, the cup of water they gave me had some fresh stains...... It used to be at least ok for just a quick lunch as I go to school around the area, and just pop in for a quick bite during a gap. However, a shift in management maybe? But the restaurant itself smelled like pee, like a person who just went all over the place... Everything I ordered was sloppy, the spring rolls, the noodles.... I ordered bun bo hue, since it's one of the only things I eat at a vietnamese restaurant, and I've had that here often, but today I don't even know what this is. They served bun bo hue in the noodles from pho. They shouldn't be changing the noodles without notifying the customer who ordered it.... Still.. I tried it and I can't even finish half the bowl because the soup was tasteless and the noodles didn't compliment the soup, everything was just wrong. The spring rolls had this smell, like old towels... Honestly, I feel like I'm going to get sick after this.

I was in the food court searching for something "different"/cheap and found on "accident" that they had banh mi sandwiches here! I had been craving them and was surprised to find a place, especially in Daly City. I ended up ordering the grilled pork banh mi, waited about 5 minutes and was out the door. The pork was flavorful, served hot and even the bread was warm! I'll definitely be back!

It was our first time here and the owner of Pho Garden was so RUDE! If the menu on the wall is wrong, maybe you should change it instead of yelling at my boyfriend. Plus, the pork banh mi sandwich was super fatty and the bread was stale Better go to the one on Geary or some banh mi shop in SJ

People were raving about the imperial rolls. So I gave it a shot.. Little did I know once I got home was that half of it wasn't even fried.. it was still in it's natural state.. cold and soft and wet. It's like they didn't even fry the whole thing and just left it frying but not turn it over. Was definitely NOT impressed.

  • Jason C.

banh mi was meh, it tasted ok, but all the veggies were limp. bread was a tad stale and chewy. pho was decent in terms of meat quantity. although i paid $2 more for 6 meatballs, it looked like 3 meat balls cut in half instead. service was slow, how hard was it to make pho? waiters didnt know how to pronounce their own menu items. shows you how much they know or care what they are serving. the waiter also forgot our bean sprouts. save your time and money, just go to a mom and pop place. there are plenty around that will give you better food and know what the heck they are serving you.

I haven't been here in a while but I remember when it was $5 for a banh mi AND soda. Now it's $6 for just the sandwich. Good but not THAT good.

The pho here is not bad for being in a mall. Their version is definitely not as salty as most pho joints. Afterwards you won't get thirsty or feel tired (a lack or light amount of msg?). However, they are skimpy on the bean sprouts and basil sides. There are not many pho choices either - just the basics like flank, pork meatballs, combination, etc. You can also do the pho challenge, which is gross to try IMO, haha. - The spring rolls are huge and include both shrimp and boiled pork pieces in the fillings. But, the pieces are very small and the filling is mostly rice noodle. It is borderline bland and you'll need copious amount of the dipping sauce. -The imperial rolls are better, since wrapped with rice paper and had just the right amount of fillings. - Bun rieu is also almost a skip unless you really must have it. If you've had it good elsewhere, the version here is lighter without the strong flavors. They do include all the right ingredients which is a plus. - Six types of banh mi are available, and the combination banh mi is very good. You can get it (or one of three other types) with a drink, as a combo for $6. This is cleaner than most pho places, so no need to go to other pho places in the area. Capacity is pretty good so you can just drop in without much of a wait if at all. Located inside the Serramonte Mall food court, next to the entry/exit doors.

Spring Roll with Shrimp and Pork: Very loose and fell apart as soon as it got to our table. Fresh. Didn't like the peanut sauce. Battered Fried Calamari: Nothing like the picture. Looks like mutated squishy nuggets. More like battered fried batter. Excessively oily. Sweet Potato Fries: Soggy Pho: Alright. One size. Decent portion. Combination Banh Mi: Lots of bread. Not enough filling. Too much mayo. Not enough pate. Not bad, not great. Five Spiced Chicken with Garlic Noodle: Chicken was really "wet." Chicken skin was rubbery. Taste ok. Five spice near undetectable. Garlic noodle was dry, bitter and stale.

Few people know that there are two Pho Challenges here at Pho Garden. The first is the one with the massive bowl of pho and meat. But the second challenge came as a surprise to us. In fact you don't even have to ask for the second challenge because you won't find out till you get home on whether you beat the challenge of getting FOOD POISONING. Unfortunately about 4 hours after eating the five spice chicken here my wife lost the challenge as she proceeded to vomit uncontrollably for the next 24 hours. I however won the challenge without becoming nauseous or sick, but actually I lost because I had to see my wife suffer and I didn't sleep because I had to listen as she yacked liked Lindsay Lohan after a long night of coke and drunken debauchery. That being said the service was nice and friendly. Little did we know behind the scenes Pho Garden was plotting evil schemes against us. I can hear their evil laugh now, show'em how it's done Dr. Evil: (watch video) youtu.be/7edeOEuXdMU

Probably one of the best Pho in the Peninsula, we keep coming back here as our go to spot for good Pho on a cold day. Their sandwiches are also fantastic, highly recommend the Pork Belly Sandwich. Their bread is always fresh, crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. It is in the Foodcourt at within a mall, so you'll need to reset your expectations here and for Foodcourt food its pretty damn good. Its also got its own seating area away from the usual seating within the Foodcourt so that would give you a little solace away from the crowds. They are also a lot cleaner than some of the more traditional Vietnamese Pho stores around the Pennisula. Though don't expect too much from the service, you are in a Foodcourt restaurant. They do close early on a Sunday night so be warned.

Came here one time with the boyfriend on a busy weekend. Got sat down quick and ordered. I ordered pork vermicelli with egg roll thingys. I noticed that all the workers were filipino ladies. All of a sudden a bunch of them realized a group of people left without paying. Sucks because one of them ran after them too late and couldn't find them. A lot of people come here and the service is pretty good. They're food was okay, not all that great.

First and last visit. Had the five spice chicken and spring roll vermicelli. First of all noodles were clumpy and gross. The fish sauce was bland and dry. Chicken was dry and crunchy, they overcooked it. Service could be better. $8 on a bowl of noodles not worth it. Go somewhere else for your noodle fix.

I've eaten at a lot pho's and here a couple times and I must say this one is not very satisfying. For taste, it's decent, but when it comes to pricing it totally isn't worth it compared to others. These guys charge a little more than most pho's and every time I've eaten here they always put a lot less then they should, from the famous soups to combo plates. I can easily say this place is stingy. I feel like the soup is always half of what I get from other places and for the combo plates they just add a lot of rice. I rarely eat here, but I gave them another chance just yesterday and I must say I was still dissatisfied.

To be fair, I've had some really delicious Bahn Mis from Little Saigon in Westminster. So of course the bar is set high for quality, taste & value. However, Pho Garden's Pork Belly Bahn Mi didn't taste Vietnamese at all. In fact, there were no pickled vegetables. Instead, there was lettuce & tomato. The pork belly was delicious but not really seasoned like meats in these types of sandwiches normally are. I think so long as you're prepared for a non-Vietnamese style bahn mi, you won't be thrown for a loop taste-wise. I also shared a grilled pork Bahn Mi that was more traditional. It was good but not great. (And the price is higher obviously than what you'd pay in Little Saigon. But hey, everything's more expensive in the Bay Area, right?). I also ordered a rice plate for us to try. The egg roll was good. The lemongrass beef was ok (a tad chewy). My daughter & I shared a Che Bau Mau. It was fine although very heavy with beans. Overall, I think this place is A-OK and I would come back if I was really craving a Bahn Mi now that I know what to expect from here.

Where is the zero star option when I need one? The service was horrible from the moment we walked in! We had to wait thirty minutes to be seated. And get this. There were so many tables available. After half an hour wait, we got seated and asked for menus. They couldn't even do that for us. Even worse, there was a smaller party who got seated after us, and received the menu before us. And if it wasn't bad enough, they got the orders wrong. We wanted the white rice noodles that you'd usually eat in pho. What did they do? The gave us yellow noodles. If we wanted that, we would've went to a Chinese restaurant. Horrible service and somewhat average food that can be founded anywhere else.

Came in on a busy Friday night, sat down @ an empty table. For 15 minutes, 2 servers rush aimlessly around us but neither one acknowledges us. 2 other tables are seated. One server is about to take the other of the othet table. We are tired & famish. If I had spoken up, we probably would have been sitting here still.

They must have changed owners.. I have been coming here for the last 2-3 years and the last 4x I've been there, something changed. Service was bad when it was not busy. Cups, utensils, tables were dirty.. The spring rolls were ginormous but unsatisfactory. In fact, it smelled weird.. The beef in the broth was chewy and inedible. The cow must've been old as hell. I don't think other locations are like this so I can only assume the new owners took over this specific location. Oh wells, back to TL.

A pho restaurant in Serramonte Mall? weird right? but not as bad as you would think. Thank goodness they had another store on clement street in the city... so I ventured in. Their Banh Mi (Viet. Sandwiches) were exactly right and we also had the spicy Hue noodle.. not authentic with the Pigs foot and such (probably a good decision on their end... being that its a mall and all hahah) but... the broth was really good. I ordered it extra spicy ( Hot and spicy is how I like it yumm!) .. would I come back? Absolutely. I actually might like this place more than the pho near Ranch 99....

I haven't been to the original Pho Garden in SF, but this location at Serramonte Mall is not too bad. I haven't had their Pho yet, but their Garlic Noodles are actually pretty good. Maybe not Thanh Long good, but good for Mall food. I've tried their Five Spice Chicken Garlic Noodles ( yelp.com/biz_photos/fnt_… ). It's a good portion size for $8. And out of curiousity, I tried their Pork Belly Banh Mi ( yelp.com/biz_photos/fnt_… ). I didn't think this was all that great. Probably would've been better off just getting their combo pork banh mi. And like their other location, they also have the Pho Challenge. So if you're feeling hungry and want to kill a 4-lb bowl of Pho, here's your shot at Pho Immortality. It's a not a bad choice for lunch if you're shopping around the Mall or work nearby. And you can't go wrong with their Pho.

Sooo I've been to Pho Garden at the Clement location before and just kept remembering my bf saying how the pho was horrrrrrrrrrible so I was hesitant in coming here esp. with the 2.5 star rating but I really wanted a banh mi compared to all the greasy options at the mall. OVERALL - it was a great decision *all considering I am at the mall still The price for banh mi is slightly overpriced BUT it was actually pretty good and definitely went above my expectations, considering I had none. LoL. Banh mi:O Overall ingredient to bread ratio: Great! Pickled veggies: Good, didn't overpower the meat but still tasted it. Wish there was a bit more of it though. Bread: Just passable. You can tell they didn't use quality bread and it coulda been a tad more toasted. Pate+mayo: Coulda been a bit more but there was enough where I wasn't digging in my sandwich wondering if I got jipped. Beef banh mi- lots of meat, super juicy and flavorful. A bit more sauce than I'd like but still pretty good. Combo banh mi- Really good as well! Not much to say :) I didn't get any other dish but my sis-in-law got the chicken pho. She said it wasn't bad and it actually came with alot of chicken for $7. 3-bean drink: watered down.. but still ok. lol. I can't vouch for anything else on the menu but overall it looks like an okay place to head to, so don't be skurred.

This place is not good. More like 5 stars Two times of a failed attempt of the PHO CHALLENGE!. They never have enough food or challenge bowls. We even called in ahead to make reservations for two challenges. FAIL. For your pho fix go to newly designed Pho Saigon in Westborough square, best Pho in area. Pho Saigon will not disappoint you! Cheers!

I was craving for some Vietnamese food and was around the area so I decided to try this place again. I've been here a couple of times and had their pho and remembered it was okay (hard to mess up soup). I wanted to try their rice plates so I ordered their five spice chicken and substituted rice with garlic noodles. Food was pretty terrible. The sides of the chicken were not tender at all and was kinda tough. I think they over cooked it or it was precooked and sat in a warmer. As for the garlic noodles, it didn't taste fresh and it looked like it was precooked from the morning. As for service, the employees were friendly. It took a little time for my credit card to go through because they use a machine that uses dial up to charge it?? I'm surprised that technology still exists lol. Two stars because the employees were pleasant. As for the food, two thumbs down. You won't see me back here again.

Craving a simple Vermicelli Salad, we stopped here just because we were at the mall. Upon entering, the service was already terrible. We seated ourselves, and the only time we talked to the waitress was when she took our order. Other than that, we never saw her again until we had to pay our bill. Apart from the awful service, they really should not advertise their "Vermicelli Salad" as a "Vermicelli Salad". The only thing they got right about this salad was the salad. Forget the vermicelli. There was an overflow of lettuce and bean sprouts, barely any carrots or daikons, and the vermicelli was merely a decorative allure. I basically had a five spice chicken romaine salad, posing as a vermicelli salad. So if I could, I would not even provide a one-star for this location. Let me just say Pho Garden, congratulations, you've lost another customer.

I gave this location two tries, before settling on my one star review. Firstly I am Sorry but who the hell serves boiling hot tea in a glass cup with no handle? I burnt my hand and ended up leaving the cup mostly unfinished. This is not cool! (No pun intended) Secondly, I ordered the add on of 3 imperial rolls and they bring me two. When I questioned this they said they changed the size of the rolls. (Ok fine I understand, but your menu said 3, therefore you are false advertising) Instead of giving me another roll they told me to stop complaining. I told them to take away the dish and remove it from my bill. I will not pay for something when you are clearly trying to do a bait and switch. Third, normally I am the one who gets sick, but this time the BF who has an Iron clad tummy got sick for 2 days. It was so bad that he had to take prescription strength anti-naseaua meds, and massive antacids. Incase anyone is wondering he ordered the chicken rice plate with garlic noodles instead of rice.(NO bueno) My first visit I wasn't feeling super well so I chalked up my getting sick off of just shrimp spring rolls as a bad day, but the second visit when my BF got sick... just made me realize it wasn't worth it. Thanks but no thanks...do yourself a favor and skip this location.

I've never ate in the actual restaurant I always order out so that's why I'm only giving 4 stars. We normally order rare pho or rare/meatball pho but tonight I decided to Ty something new and got the 5 spice chicken noodle soup....phenomenal!! The chicken skin is a little weird in the soup but the flavor it adds is amazing! My only complaint is the condiments that usually come with the pho has gotten smaller and smaller.

I'll keep this short..... Combination noodle soup was fantastic and the Vietnamese coffee....... Incredible! But the real reason for the five stars is the guy named Henry that works there. Great attitude and service! Hey man keep it up! You should ask management for a raise, I'm assuming they already know what they have so it should be easy ;) till next time!

I have been to Pho Garden several times but this time I came here for a small dinner with my cousin. We were seated immediately and the servers were very attentive (almost too attentive...) about getting our orders in and stuff. She was sick so she ordered rare steak pho while I ordered the green papaya salad with a Thai tea on the side. I asked for light ice in my Thai tea because places tend to be overly generous with the ice. When I got my tea, it was still regular ice. I didn't complain but... The green papaya salad I got was good. I was actually initially a bit excited because I saw there were 6 shrimps. It wasn't until I ate one when I realized that they were actually sliced in half...so I really only had 3 in the whole dish. It was still good though. I would not suggest this to people who don't like pickled vegetables though. My cousin seemed to like her pho. She has a habit of adding lots of lime juice to it so she asked for extra limes. She had to ask three times to get 7 little slices of limes. I know that sounds like a lot (cuz it is) but compared to other places, Pho Garden was stingy with their limes whereas other places have given her a big bowl with a bunch of limes without really thinking twice about it. The service was mixed. They were attentive yet they left us alone completely when we got our food. It was hard to get their attention to make requests (the limes), for extra spoons (cuz there weren't any at our table), and for the check. It was more like they bugged us to get our orders and then abandoned us when we got our food. Overall, I give this place 3.5 based on this experience and based on others. The food here is pretty good but I have had better. And I don't appreciate the stinginess and odd attitude.

This was alway a good stand by for shopping and easy parking but I think they are under new ownership and the food is just not the same! They have gotten cheap. Fresh spring rolls are pre-made w super soggy noodles. Chicken noodle bowl has presliced dry up chicken reheated on the grill. Only redeeming thing is the noodle soup is still the same for now.

    (2)
  • Vivian V.

0 stars! Don't waste your time and money eating here. How can you seriously mess up on making the noodles! Really? Ordered the bun bo hue and the texture consistency of the noodles were way off either too hard or too mushy bite after bite along with the meat which all tasted days old! Practically inedible! How can you even serve that to your customers? Left with the food barely even touched, hope they took the hint. Do yourself and your wallet a favor and eat elsewhere. Saddest $8 I ever spent for a bowl of pho. Awful!!

Just had a wonderful lunch. The new chef insists on fresh ingredients. The spring rolls were perfect and large. The garlic noodles are great not too much garlic and done to perfection. We were treated as old friends and taken very good care of. They are also doing catering. If we do a backyard party I will call these folks first. Ignore the negative comments. This place is great.

This place used to be decent, but the quality of the food and menu options plummeted steeply. Bun was soggy, five spice chicken was dry and lacked flavor, pho veggie dish had only bean sprouts, pho was cold, meat was fully cooked by the time it came out and the broth was basically just MSG. For mall food, service was good and warrants the only star. Significantly disappointed, especially since Pho Garden has a reputation to uphold. Never coming back again.

Man vs. Pho! A friend was moving away and his SF bucket list was to do the pho challenge at Pho Garden. The challenge consists of two lbs of meat and two lbs of noodles and you have to finish it all in one hour. Of course I let the guys take this one while I happily munched on my normal sized pho. As you can see, their bowls were incredibly huge and were given ladles as opposed to the norm Asian soup spoon. Let's just say that while I was laughing on the table, they were sweating bullets and wanted to die a little. Sad to say, while two of the three were very close in finishing, no one was able to get on the Wall of Fame. That being said, pho was pretty standard southern style and will food coma you at the end due to all the MSG. Not horrible but I would never say, "Let's go to Pho Garden!"

Surprisingly good Vietnamese sandwiches. It's pretty hard to find a good banh mi on the peninsula. So I'll shell out a little bit more for the ones over here. They're $5 which is double the normal price but my #1 had the works! Pork loaf, pate, pickled veggies, jalapeno, ham, headcheese, etc on a pretty fresh baguette that didn't produce a ton of crumbs once I bit into it. The taste was legit. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/fnt_… ) Their pho is solid as well. $7 for a dac biet, decent size. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/fnt_… ) Pho Garden's on the bus stop side of the food court and they do the pho challenge just like at their Clement St. location. Not bad to fix your craving of a banh mi or pho considering parking is pretty easy.

What happened to this place?! I use to love going here and I always get the five spice chicken over steamed rice. I haven't been here probably a few months now and they've made all these changes. They've turned into a cafeteria style restaurant. You order at the front and seat yourself and grab your own utensils and water. Which I don't mind, but if you're going to tell us to come in and have a seat? Please make sure there are actually clean tables to sit. I came with my family of 5 and there were customers with just 2 people struggling to find a clean table. When we ordered our food, the waitress taking our order told us to have a seat and we were looking around like where? We had to ask them to clean some tables in order to have a seat. If you can't keep up with the cafeteria style, don't do it. This restaurant was sooo much better before and I regret to say I won't be coming back here. Oh. And my steamed rice for my five spice burnt chicken was mushy. So disappointed.

This place is surprisingly cheap and delicious! Who knew that there'd be a decent sit down restaurant inside of Serramonte, of all places? + Friendly staff + Large selection of soups, rice plates, and sandwiches + DIshes are all around $5-8 + Portions are large + Nice interior with lots of seating + Stuff comes out within 5-10 minutes + The food tastes great and fresh! - No cons!? What the.... I haven't had a genuinely 5 star experience like this in a long, long time. I was very much surprised by Pho Garden, and would probably go back if I were ever cruising around Boppermonte again.

I don't know why I always come back to this place... Uggh!!!! Oh yea! Because when I'm shopping at the mall this is the only place for Vietnamese noodles I can go too... "What's up with that serramonte???" I ordered the 5 spice chicken over rice or should I say the 2 spice reheated dry around the edges shiny chicken... Ooooo I'm scanlezzzz... But for real though. My sister ordered the pork chops over rice with an egg or should I say giant sized reheated pork chop over dried out rice... I'm pretty sure y'all get the picture... The best items on my plate were the tomatoes and cucumber which were fresh, thats all i ate and basically picked at the rest of the stuff... uggh! And why these two rice dishes don't come with no soup on the side WTF??? We paid 2 dollars extra for a small bowl of soup... Shoooooo!!!! I think this was confirmation for my taste buds that this will be the last visit here. My kid is just gonna have to eat deep fried cheese sticks across the way next time "oh well" P.S the table smelled like dirty rag but the wait staff were really nice and the water was icy.

My husband and I stopped here to eat today while in the mall for a quick lunch. Well it ended up being not so quick. I guess they have a "new system" (as I read by the entrance) that requires you to pay first at the register, then they give you a number and you bring it back to your table and wait for them to bring you your order. This system is NOT working for them. My husbands Pho came right away, but while waiting for my food I noticed the servers bring the wrong order to 3 different tables. Then I saw my order go by and given to the wrong person. When I told them I did not want that particular plate because the other person had probably eaten some of it, they seemed a bit shocked but willingly made it again. When I finally got my order I noticed they messed up 2 more tables orders. I totally get things happen, people get confused, but you cant give someone a plate of food that has been given to someone else and they might have eaten out of. Overall the food was just decent , but I would have to say their sandwiches are the best.

I used to frequent here before its atmosphere changed. I mean it is now a Chipotle mall version for bland fast faux Pho. I liked the service when they had food servers waiting on tables better because it was more personal and efficient for the space that it is in. Now I just feel like I'd rather opt to stay in the food court if I am not going to be served. And their food selection lacks, not the most ideal Pho experience if you are indeed craving real delicious authentic Pho.
